Originally from the United States and Scandinavia, the “featherbed” or “mattress topper” is installed on the mattress and under the fitted sheet for added heat and improved comfort. Recent studies have shown that many people sleep better with a pure wool mattress protector placed between the mattress and the sheet. The researchers explain this result by:

• a better distribution of pressure points on the body,
• the fact that the wool fibers, thanks to the retained air, insulate the sleeper and ensure a regular ambient temperature. Wool is also a natural shield against volatile organic compounds (formaldehyde type),
• the property of wool fibers to allow moisture to evaporate, wool being able to absorb up to 30% of its weight in water,
• the fact that wool fibers, even when covered with a sheet, provide a more comfortable feeling.

100% certified organic merino wool filling GOTS produced in an ecological and sustainable way  :

• The wool is obtained by shearing live animals and produced in a completely ecological and animal-friendly way: the sheep graze on pastures that have not been treated with fertilizers, pesticides or insecticides. Their health is carefully monitored and does not include unnecessary treatment with antibiotics.
• The wool is then washed at 60°C with a non-polluting biodegradable detergent added to soda ash and then rinsed several times with clean water. It is then dried at 80°C and bleached with chlorine-free hydrogen peroxide.

Bio-ethical production chain with organic certification of the entire textile sector:

• Demanding environmental criteria : organic cotton is grown with compost replacing chemical fertilizers and pesticides. It is GMO-free and the water consumption required for its cultivation is halved compared to conventional cotton. Its fiber is bleached with hydrogen peroxide and not with chlorine. The dyes are made without heavy metals or other carcinogenic substances. Crop rotation in organic farming helps oxygenate the land and preserve its richness.
• Working conditions : no child labor or forced labor, sufficient wages and decent working hours, regularity of employment... Organic cotton cultivation also allows producers, by reducing their investments, to escape the cycle of debt. It improves their working conditions, their health and that of those around them.

• This Uppermattress being composed of 100% natural untreated fibers, it will shrink 4 to 7% during the first wash, even cold. So, although it can be washed cold (maximum 30°C) with a "fragile" washing program, we advise you to opt for organic dry cleaning. Under normal use conditions, it does not need more than one cleaning per year.
• Since organic cotton and wool are obviously not treated, they have a natural odor exacerbated by the confinement of the product in its packaging. A guarantee of the organic nature of the raw materials used to make this product, this odor dissipates after airing and disappears completely after a few weeks.
